Drama
The study of Drama reaps benefits which reach far beyond the classroom and, indeed, far beyond the school environment. Self- awareness and confidence are essential in today’s competitive climate and learning how to present oneself both professionally and socially can be a tremendous advantage. The subject also has the added benefit of being great, great fun.
While emphasis is largely placed on practical skills, there is also a significant amount of written work, which concentrates on analysing and evaluating the practical element. Thus students learn how to achieve a desired response to their actions and gain a heightened awareness of both physical and vocal skills. The course centres on improvised activities and scripted work, when students are given the opportunity to study a variety of plays. They are also examined on their evaluation of live performances, so an essential component of the course involves going to the theatre. There is a huge amount of variety and there is never a dull moment!
At G.C.S.E. level, 60% of marks are awarded for practical skills and 40% for a written examination. Perfecting both these elements takes time, dedication and real effort. It is hard work but extremely rewarding. None of us ever forgets the performances we gave in school or college. To achieve in drama is not just to enhance our life skills but to gain happy memories.
Students in Drama at Scarisbrick Hall have achieved a 100% pass rate in grades A*-C in the last five consecutive years.
