Music
College students have the option of studying Music and Drama as two separate subjects or Performing Arts which involves Dance, Drama and Music. In Performing Arts pupils will be expected to perform several rehearsed song and dance routines throughout the year; these will be based on music taken from various musicals. This will provide a foundation for pupils wishing to take Performing Arts BTEC in Years 10 and 11.
GCSE Music follows the AQA specification and this year the strand is Popular Music of the 20th and 21st centuries so pupils have to compose a song or isntrumental piece using this genre. For pupils studying GCSE in Year 10 the strand is World Music and pupils will be composing a piece with an Indian, African or Caribbean flavour.
The Scarisbrick Singers will be preparing for various concerts and events throughout the year including “A Christmas Journey”, Spring and Summer Concerts and Awards Day at the end of the Summer Term. The Music Festival is also very popular in the Spring Term.
Peripatetic lessons continue to grow and we currently offer instrumental tuition in Piano, Woodwind, String, Guitar, Drum and Percussion and Voice
Music plays a very important part in the life of the College and we are very proud of the fact that our hymns are sung enthusiastically by both girls and boys at Assemblies.
