PE

Being one of a handful of independent schools in the country to hold the prestigious “Sport England Active Mark Gold Award’ only goes to show what a successful and competitive department we have. The PE department prides itself on providing a broad and balanced range of activities such as: football, netball, cross-country, swimming, cricket, rounders, athletics, judo, badminton, rugby, basketball, tennis, gymnastics, dance, golf, canoeing and fencing.  Extra curricular fixtures take place against both local schools and also against schools within the ISA group. Students also compete within a variety of ISA tournaments including netball, cross country, rounders and athletics.

Each year we host several large events at the school. These include football and netball tournaments, cross-country tournaments and various age group swimming galas. The PE department has also hosted the Sefton Schools’ cross-country championships and the Ormskirk Schools Cross-country Tournament. We also currently organise and run the North ISA Swimming gala and select the team to represent the North at the National Championships. This year we will be hosting the North ISA Junior and Senior Cross Country events.

In Year 9 pupils are given the chance to study Sports Science which forms the basis for the GCSE PE course in Year 10. This subject also helps the students develop an understanding of the value of a healthy balanced lifestyle.

In Year 10 pupils are given the option to study GCSE PE. This is a popular academic course producing excellent results at the end of Year eleven. The course includes written coursework, practical elements and a final examination. Theexamination board that we use for this course is OCR.
