At Scarisbrick Hall School we aim to help all pupils achieve their full potential. We recognise and value each pupil as an individual and make every effort to accommodate each individual’s needs.
The Support Learning Centre enables pupils with either general or specific learning difficulties or those who are gifted or talented or where English is an additional language to have extra lessons with specialist teachers.
We support pupils to suit their individual needs. This may be a structured multi-sensory teaching programme, but could also be through curriculum support, by teaching study skills, organisation and revision skills. An Individual Educational Plan is prepared twice a year. Lessons take place, on a one to one basis, during normal school hours and timetabling is arranged to minimise any disruption to any normal teaching.
Support Learning Centre teachers liaise with the subject teachers in order that the particular needs of pupils can be assessed. We see specific learning difficulties as a different way of learning – not simply a set of difficulties. At the same time as helping pupils to improve on their weaker areas we emphasise their strengths and celebrate their successes in any area of the curriculum.
Screening procedures are used to identify possible pupils with learning difficulties and pupils can also be referred for more detailed assessments.
Systems are in place for the application of access arrangements for public examinations for those pupils who would be otherwise disadvantaged. These arrangements are also in place for internal examinations.
Scarisbrick Hall School has been recognised as a specialist centre for the teaching of dyslexic pupils (CReSTeD).
