Welcome to Year 2

Within Year 2 children will cover some exciting topics through the Creative Curriculum. Incorporated into these topics will be most of the Literacy work such as story writing, instructions, poetry, fact sheets and recounts.

Ancient Egyptians

Autumn time and a very exciting topic!

Within this topic the children will go back in time to life in Ancient Egypt. They will build up a time line of dates and events that formed Ancient civilisation.  Children will carry out some map work identifying the cities and rivers within Egypt and what it was used for.

Children will look at pyramids and how they were built, how they wrote in Hieroglyphics, life in an Egyptian home, Mummification and of course who was Tutankhamen?

Trips may include: A visit to Liverpool World Museum and Horrible Histories live on stage.

Oceans and Seas

This is a great topic to look at during the spring, with a visit to the local seaside later in the term.

Within this topic children will look at various sea creatures identifying parts of their body and facts about them. This may be carried out as an independent learning task or part of a small group task. We will look at the history of sea transport such as the Titanic. Children will experiment with materials, designing and building a boat and carry out tests to see if it will float or sink. During this topic we will also carry out some map work identifying the continents and oceans around the world, as well as identifying places children may have visited.

Trips may include: Visit to the local beach, Lifeboat Centre and a class speaker (Diver).

Healthy Me

During the Summer Term Year 2 will be learning about different parts of the body. This includes looking at the internal organs such as the heart, lungs, liver and how they function. We also look at the bones in the body, naming them and learning this is the frame for our body. Teeth are another interesting part to this topic; we name the teeth and identify their use within the mouth.

Trips may include: A visit to a dental practice in the local area and a visit from a doctor.
