Year 4 Creative Curriculum
In the first term we look at “Talking of Tudors,” in the second, “Mighty Mountains” and we divide the third term into two studying “How our Body Works” and “Life Cycles.”
Clearly, “Talking Tudors” is very History based! We look at the life and times of Henry Viii and his wives, living in Tudor times and lastly the Spanish Armada – a particular favourite with the boys! This topic found us re-enacting the Battle of Bosworth in the grounds outside, learning a Tudor dance during our visit to Rufford Old Hall and discovering just how the Armada was won!
This year I hope to include a Tudor Feast too – something I’m looking forward to myself.
“Mighty Mountains” is of course, more biased towards Geography. Our studies include famous mountain ranges in the UK, Europe and beyond; famous explorers and expeditions, mountain weather and safety. This term also found us creating our own mountain ranges from papier-mache, which in itself stimulated considerable work, including map work. We also spent a day in the Lake District, which I would certainly hope to repeat this coming year.
“How our Body Works,” and “Life Cycles” are both Science based. We look at various systems that keep us going; respiration, circulation, digestion and movement. This proved very interesting and quite mind boggling! Then we move on to study the life cycle of plants, the complete metamorphosis of the frog and the butterfly and lastly us – the human!
Art and ICT are brought into the learning within the Creative Curriculum as much as possible. Literacy and Numeracy are incorporated too, when appropriate; but may also be treated as a discreet subject when necessary.
