Welcome to Year 6
During Year 6 we consolidate knowledge gained to date, build and develop skills whilst looking forward into Year 7.
Pupils not only acquire knowledge but use their knowledge to make deductions, form opinions and justify those opinions using facts and information researched from a variety of sources.
Emphasis is placed on development of potential and skills acquired by each individual child so pupils can make optimum use of their own laptops to access the relevant, controlled internet sites via wireless connection.
The Creative approach to teaching and learning enables all aspects of the curriculum to be taught showing relevance to real life situations.
In Year 6 we have 3 topics each lasting for one term. These are:
World War 2, Britain since 1948, Good Morning America.
World War 2
We follow the course of World War 2 from Hitler to Dunkirk: the Holocaust and Anne Frank: the Battle of Britain and the development of plastic surgery: the Battle of the Atlantic and its relevance to Liverpool. We dress as evacuees and visit Stockport Air Raid Shelters, make our own air raid shelters and meals based on rations.
Opportunities for Literacy include: biography, diaries, letter writing, descriptive and persuasive writing.

Good Morning America
Scarisbrick Hall School is situated in acres of woodland which can become a learning environment in itself. For our study of the Native Americans we source most of our materials from the immediate vicinity. We make story sticks and weaving using only natural materials. We build villages in the woods consisting of tipis and wigwams.
Literacy opportunities include: factual writing, skimming and scanning, communicating and Native American legends, comparison between film and biography, reports, poetry and debate.
Numeracy includes problem solving, estimating and rounding, time and time zones, money, charts and graphs and investigations.
In Year 6, we also like to get involved in any dramatic presentations and we produced “Joseph” for parents and friends last year.
