Welcome to Year 7
During Year 7 we continue to build upon the solid foundations created in KS2 and focus on further extending the pupil’s knowledge and understanding. Being part of the Middle School enables us to ensure a smooth transition into KS3 and Y7.
The creative curriculum continues into Key Stage 3 where we encourage the pupil’s spontaneity, and the ability to see and use everyday opportunities to help them to solve problems, explore new ideas, and find answers to key questions. Throughout the year the pupils are taught three topics each lasting a term. Our current topic is:
The Apprentice
This topic allows the pupils to find the entrepreneur within them. Working as part of a small team each member must take on area of responsibility and ensure their contribution to the group. As a team they must design and create a product which in turn they must advertise and sell. The topic, although demanding, allows opportunities for all pupils to access the subject matter at their own level. This creates a much personalised curriculum. Pupils are set for Mathematics, English and Science.
Homework
The pupils in Year 7 are also given a number of themed homework projects throughout the year that are designed to enable each child to further learning and develop areas of the curriculum within the home environment. We hope that the range of skills covered will help them to be prepared and organised in future years.
Admission
Entry into Year 7 is often seen as a key step in the educational life of a pupil, moving from the primary section of a school into a senior section. At Scarisbrick Hall School we are very conscious of enabling the best possible transition so that every pupil has the opportunity to reach their potential. Middle School bridges the gap of the traditional primary / secondary divide and ‘smooths’ out the transition process. Small class sizes (maximum of 21 per class) support our ethos of personalised learning. A carefully planned creative curriculum allows Year 7 pupils to experience the benefits of specialist staff alongside the security of having their own classroom and Form teacher. The majority of lessons are taught in their classroom, only leaving when specialist rooms, such as science labs, art rooms, drama studios and home economics, are needed.
Existing Middle School pupils will be given priority places into Year 7. External pupils can join us at any point, however all pupils who wish to enter our two-form intake going into Year 7 sit the Common Entrance Exam. This year’s Entrance Examination will take place on 25th January 2012. For further detail please click here.
Scarisbrick Hall School offer a wide range of Scholarships, these include academic, music and sporting. The top academic award, the Borowski Scholarship, covers 100% of the school fee. Other academic scholarships are awarded based on individual ability.
