BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
Scarisbrick Hall Middle School
YEARS 5-8
The Middle School has an extensive co-curricular provision that complements the Arts and Sports.
Beyond The Classroom activities are designed to build character and promote the RIVER learning aspects of Resilience, Independence, Value, Exploration and Reflection.
Every year Middle School run activity trips to the nearby Lake District as well as ski trips, city breaks, curriculum field trips and work with local attractions and landmarks to enhance the curriculum. We have a belief that it is our duty to provide experiences that take pupils outside of the normal classroom.

HOUSE COMPETITIONS & LEADERSHIP
Across the academic year pupils in Middle School have the opportunity to take part in a number of competitions and opportunities for leadership roles. School Council elections take place every year where pupils campaign to be elected through a democratic process. All pupils are placed in one of our four houses:
Oxley
Raynor
Poulton
Wyburn
They compete in House competitions including, netball, football, rounders, rugby, debating, public speaking and even bake off.
Pupils are encouraged to enter national competitions in writing, science, debating and engineering. We take part in competitions within the Independent School’s Association, competing against other ISA Schools as well as other widely recognised national and international events.

EXPEDITIONS & ADVENTURE
Whether it be skiing in Austria and France, climbing mountains in the Lakes or exploring our extensive 52-acre site, all of our staff actively encourage the use of the outdoors to inspire a spirit of exploration. Our personal fleet of minibuses allow the school to run trips to local sites and utilise the nearby coastal, rural and city attractions. Through the Middle School Diploma and Passport pupils are also encouraged to engage with local charity activities.
