BatOnRoute – School Transport Tracking

Stay Connected to Your Child’s Journey

As part of our commitment to providing a safe, reliable and reassuring school transport service, Scarisbrick Hall School uses BatOnRoute to help families stay connected to their child’s journey.

The BatOnRoute Safe app allows parents to follow the progress of their child’s school bus, receive useful journey notifications and manage transport information directly from their phone.

This guide explains how to get started and how to use the key features of the app.

Getting Started

Download the BatOnRoute Safe app to your mobile device.

Parents using the school transport service will be emailed a personal username and initial password. Once you have signed in, you can change your password within the app if required.

If you have not received your login details, please contact the School Transport Team.

When you first open the app, you will see a map. A bar at the top of the screen will show whether your child’s route is currently in operation.

When the route is active, you will be able to see the bus moving on the map and follow its progress along the route.

Using BatOnRoute

Select the three-line menu icon in the top-left corner of the app to access the main menu.

Your child’s name will appear at the top. If you have more than one child using school transport, you can scroll between their profiles to select the child you wish to view.

From the menu, you can access the following features.

Absences

If your child will not be travelling on the school bus, please record their absence through BatOnRoute wherever possible.

You can select whether the absence applies to:

  • the morning journey
  • the afternoon journey
  • or both journeys

Please record transport absences as early as possible.

Once a bus route has started, you will no longer be able to record an absence for that journey through the app. If this happens, please email registers@scarisbrickhallschool.co.uk to let us know that your child will not be travelling.

The Transport Team monitors this inbox and will notify the relevant driver.

Reporting changes promptly helps our drivers maintain accurate passenger information and prevents unnecessary waiting at stops.

Planning

The Planning section displays your child’s route letter and scheduled pick-up and drop-off times.

Please remember that journey times can be affected by traffic and other circumstances, so these should be treated as scheduled rather than guaranteed arrival times.

Notifications

The Show Notifications section displays notifications that have been activated for your child’s journey.

Settings

Settings allows you to choose which notifications you would like to receive and how you receive them.

Within the app, Scarisbrick Hall School may be referred to as the Organisation.

Each bus stop has a virtual geographical area, known as a geofence, around it. Notifications can alert you as the school bus approaches the relevant stop, helping you prepare for its arrival.

Change Password

You can change your BatOnRoute password at any time through this section.

User Manual

A full BatOnRoute user manual is also available within the app.

This contains more detailed information about the system, although you should not need to read the full manual to use the app’s main features.

School Bus Timings

Traffic can naturally affect school transport timings, but keeping to the timetable also relies on pupils being ready to board at their scheduled stop.

Morning Journeys

We recommend that pupils arrive at their bus stop five minutes before the scheduled departure time.

If a pupil is not at the stop within two minutes of the designated departure time, the bus will need to continue its journey.

This is important to prevent pupils at later stops from experiencing unnecessary delays.

Afternoon Journeys

Our afternoon transport schedule is based on buses leaving Scarisbrick Hall School at:

Monday–Thursday: 4.20pm
Friday: 3.40pm

Buses will leave once all expected passengers are aboard.

If your child is not travelling home by bus as planned, please let us know as early as possible. This prevents the driver and Transport Team from waiting for a pupil who is not expected to travel and helps keep journeys running smoothly for everyone.

Changes to Your Child’s Journey

Wherever possible, changes to your child’s school transport arrangements should be recorded through BatOnRoute.

If you are unable to make the change through the app, or the route has already started, please contact the school:

Telephone: 01704 841151
Available from 7.00am

Email: registers@scarisbrickhallschool.co.uk

If a parent informs the driver directly that their child will not be travelling on the bus for a particular journey, the pupil can also be removed from the passenger list for that journey.
