Alumna Valerie Returns to Scarisbrick Hall School: Inspiring the Next Generation of Legal Minds

At Scarisbrick Hall School our ethos is centred on supporting and inspiring learners to succeed in an environment of compassion and diligence. We celebrate the qualities that unify us all, creating a confident and thriving community. This philosophy was clearly reflected in the recent visit of alumna Valerie Tchikhiaeva, who returned to share her journey in law and inspire future leaders.

Valerie, a former Deputy Head Girl who graduated in 2014, has since built an outstanding career in law, working on significant cases like the NHS Blood Scandal and the Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry During her visit, she shared her experiences with students interested in pursuing law, offering practical career advice and personal insights. Her success highlights how Scarisbrick Hall School’s nurturing environment helps shape students long after they leave our classrooms.

How Scarisbrick Hall School’s Values Shaped Valerie’s Journey

Valerie’s return reminded us of how our academic, pastoral, moral, and social aims continue to support students in reaching their full potential. She spoke about how the school’s supportive environment helped her build the confidence and leadership skills she needed to thrive in the legal world.

“Scarisbrick Hall School pushed us to be confident individuals,” she shared. “The focus on leadership and hard work has stayed with me throughout my life. Mr Roberts, Miss Tinskey, and my history teacher were a huge inspiration in my legal career. They taught us the intricacies of the English language, how to question, analyse, and scrutinise any given source—a skill everyone should take forward, especially considering the current state of global affairs.”

Valerie’s story is a testament to our school’s dedication to developing independent learners who go on to achieve and exceed their potential. Now holding a prominent role as In-House Paralegal for the Post Office Horizon IT Inquiry, Valerie has earned three law degrees, including a Master’s focusing on the effects of autonomous ships on international trade law. Her career highlights how the foundations laid at Scarisbrick Hall School can lead to extraordinary professional success.

Valerie’s Advice: Follow Your Passion and Network Early

During her talk, Valerie shared practical advice that aligns with our pastoral aim of creating a safe environment where successes are celebrated, and confidence is nurtured. She encouraged students to explore different areas of law and find what truly excites them, rather than simply chasing financial rewards.

“Law is a broad field,” she explained. “It’s important to find the area that resonates with you, whether it’s family law, corporate law, or international trade. Don’t pursue law just for the money—follow your passion.”

Valerie also emphasised the importance of networking and gaining practical experience early. “Attend trials, observe how cases unfold, and get to know people in the field. Building these relationships will help shape your career both professionally and personally,” she advised.

Reflections on Scarisbrick Hall School’s Lasting Impact

Reflecting on her time here, Valerie expressed immense gratitude for the quality of education and the role the school played in shaping her career.

“What an absolute honour and privilege it was to be invited back to my school as an alumna to talk about my legal career. Speaking to the teachers was a great reflection point on how my private education at Scarisbrick really did shape my future and change the trajectory of my life,” she shared.

Valerie continued, “I have nothing but words of praise for the level of education, state-of-the-art facilities, and the dedication this school offers—from outstanding manners to excellent academic results. I cannot express my appreciation enough and look forward to returning for our 10-year reunion to share in our nostalgia.”
